Safety Expert Marine Surveyor Services for Yacht & Boat Surveys in the European Union
About our yacht and boat survey service:
Safety Expert Marine Surveys conducts all types of surveys on leisure craft, including those of the type you propose, and would be pleased to offer this service to you. Surveys are always undertaken by a very experienced and IOSH AIIRSM accredited marine small craft surveyor, who may be assisted by a skilled specialist if the vessel is of unusual design or construction.
The final scope of survey may be selected by you but the scope of the “Insurance Survey” will include all the items expected by any marine underwriter as an absolute minimum. A full scope survey is exactly that – full scope and will inspect everything that is accessible onboard.
All surveys of GRP vessels should include detection and assessment of any developing Osmosis and this forms a key part of the survey process.
All vessels must be lifted out of the water and pressure washed for a proper underwater assessment, ideally at least 1 day prior to the inspection.
The survey of the propulsion will include the externally visible elements of the engines and gearboxes, fluid levels and leaks, hoses, belts, exhaust, fuel system from tank onwards, shaft line complete and the engine mounts and is a very comprehensive visual check. A full running check can be carried out if the vessel is afloat at any time during the survey.
As long as power is available, electrical equipment and electronic devices can be switch tested.
Oil sampling is an optional part of the survey and will be arranged in accordance with your request but is strongly recommended for powered craft, as it can provide valuable information about the wear rates of the engine internal parts.
Your survey may include a sea trial if it can be organised by the broker handling the sale. This will allow running checks with the engines at full working temperatures and is also very useful in permitting functional testing of the vessel’s fitted systems and electronics.
On completion of the survey you will receive a comprehensive report, including relevant photographs. This will categorize defects and make recommendations regarding treatment or repairs necessary.
Survey costs will depend upon your final scope of survey. We recommend as a minimum an insurance scope survey as this will satisfy the insurance company being asked to cover the craft.
Standard and optional cost would include however are not limited to the following
- Full /insurance scope survey
- A sea trial
- Oil sampling charges are to cover the analysis fee and postage
- Traveling expenses
You can request a sample copy of our standard terms and conditions, which is effectively the industry standard. A specific copy will be sent to you for agreement and signature prior to survey, which forms our written agreement.
We would like to assure you of our best attention to your enquiry at all times. With years of experience surveying yachts and motorboats of all types, you may be assured that you will be provided with all the information and support that you will require to help you reach a sound purchasing decision. We regularly undertake surveys and inspections of craft throughout the Mediterranean and Europe and are ready to assist you throughout the process.
We take pride in our service and place quality and reliability above cost saving measures. When comparing your options, please remember that not all survey companies are able to offer the same complete package as ourselves, not all surveyors have the depth of experience as ours and not all automatically include the protection of full Professional Indemnity Insurance.
Finally we understand that awaiting the surveyor’s report can be a difficult period for prospective purchasers and for this reason, unless you attend the survey in person, we will contact you within 24 hours of the survey with our verbal assessment and will follow up with our full written report a few days later, usually by email to expedite delivery.
We hope we have answered most of your standard questions but do please feel free to contact us if you have more queries on your survey or yacht delivery?
